This pair of prints are one of a kind cyanotype prints, each on 300gsm handmade cotton paper (A4)
The original cyanotype prints were created by placing hand gathered seaweed from Morecambe Bay on the surface of light sensitive paper and then exposing the paper to sunlight. The earliest practitioner of the artform, Anna Atkins, produced a large number of seaweed prints and now that I live closer to the coast I finally got the chance to try it for myself. These are the only two seaweed prints I have made so far and I think that they work well as a pair. However, they could be available as separate prints, please message me to discuss.
I create my own cyanotype paper in a small purpose-built darkroom in my studio at Wyresdale Park in the beautiful Forest of Bowland. The light sensitive chemicals are painted onto the paper with a broad hake brush. Due to the textured nature of the paper a light touch with the brush means that parts of the paper are missed, which highlights the process of making by leaving my brushwork more visible.
I source my plants and feathers from the local area and create all my original prints and drawings in the studio. The immediacy of this way of working, immersed in nature, enables me to capture the shifting beauty of seasonal changes and means that you too can own a unique snapshot of Lancashire.
All prints on the website are sold unframed. Please enquire directly if you also wish to purchase a hanging frame (as pictured on some of these items) or if you require our bespoke framing service.
